Datum J Design approaches design as a system of cultural translation. Drawing from the visual and philosophical foundations of East Asian traditions, the studio works with paper-cutting and calligraphy as parallel forms of mark-making. One defined by removal, the other by inscription.

These processes inform a broader methodology where form, structure, and narrative are developed simultaneously. Rather than treating tradition as a fixed reference, it is engaged as a living framework, capable of being reinterpreted across different materials, industries, and audiences.
